How can you set up a Solr core?
1. Registration and first steps
3. Configuration and operation
1. Registration and first steps
Hosted Solr is a commercial hosting offer for Solr that is primarily designed for commercial customers. To register for the free trial month, we only need your e-mail address and the name of a contact person. The account is of course password-protected. For paid use, we also ask for the full company address and your VAT number.
2. Set up a Solr Core
Once you have registered, you can get started straight away: First select your CMS system - for example TYPO3, Drupal or Storyblok. Then decide on a suitable Solr version and language. Give your Solr Core a name or use the automatically generated name. Click on ‘Create’ and that's it! After a few minutes, the Solr Core is ready for use.
You will recognise that the core is ready when the small ‘flag’ next to the core turns green. You will find all the access data you need to access your CMS under the ‘Data’ button. With this data, you can immediately connect your CMS to the Solr core and finalise the setup.
3. Configuration and operation
Our Hosted Solr cores are already prepared for the respective systems and are immediately ready for use after the connection configuration. Please note that the cores are protected by basic authentication, which requires a user name and password. In the Hosted Solr backend, you will find helpful hints and tips on connection configuration for each core.
The exact configuration steps depend on the system used. For example, TYPO3 requires the EXT:solr extension, which enables settings for indexing and searching in addition to the connection configuration. You can find additional configuration tips in our FAQ.
4. Costs and tariff models
We offer Hosted Solr in various packages depending on the number of indexed documents and Solr cores. The smallest package contains two Solr cores and up to 4,000 indexed documents. As a rule of thumb, one Solr core is required per language, with one core costing around five euros per month. We offer attractive discounts for larger quantities. Can't find a suitable package? Please contact us - we will be happy to help you!
5. Updates and versions
The Solr version remains unchanged after setup, and we ensure secure and stable operation by automatically applying critical security updates. New Solr versions are also available to you: Simply create a new core, configure it in the CMS and start the reindexing process. You can then delete the old core. However, we do not support direct migration between Solr versions.
